Muse UniWire demo video, Winter NAMM 2006
The combination of Muse Research's UniWire networking technology and Receptor dedicated VST accelerator is cool for two reasons. First, it allows you to send MIDI and audio data via Ethernet in real time. And second, it's totally free! (If you already own the Muse Receptor, that is.)
For the uninitiated, the Muse Receptor is basically a rack-mount box that runs VST instruments and plug-ins, while UniWire is a networking technology that lets your host computer run said plugs and instruments via Ethernet, allowing the host computer to save precious memory and CPU cycles. The system is basically invisible from the user's perspective, meaning the VST instruments running on Receptor (via UniWire) look just like the VST instruments running on your Cubase or ProTools host computer. Pretty cool, eh?
There's also a distributed computing aspect to the system that makes it ever cooler: UniWire lets multiple sequencers access the same Receptor, or even multiple Receptors, so a studio could build a "Receptor array" in a closet down the hall and leverage it across their entire collection of Ethernet-linked VST hosts. Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?

OFF! Interview From Pitchfork Music Festival 2011: Dmitri Coats And Steven Shane McDonald Talk Shop
Переглядів 11 тис.12 років тому
Sure they're composed of members of such seminal punk and hard rock acts as Black Flag, Burning Brides, Red Kross and Hot Snakes, but don't call OFF! a hardcore supergroup. Or do, whatever. All these touring vets really care about is that you listen to their music and enjoy yourself at their shows. We sure did during their performance at the recent Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. We also e...
Sun Airway Interview From Pitchfork Music Festival 2011: John Barthmus Enjoys Himself Some Ableton L
Переглядів 2,7 тис.12 років тому
Feeling yourself in a songwriting rut? Why not crack open a copy of Ableton Live? That's how John Barthmus, former lead singer for Philly's A-Sides, transformed from a guitar-slinging front man to a laptop-toting front man. It's also how his new band, Sun Airway, was birthed. And now look at them, all playing at the 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival and whatnot - so proud. We spoke with Barthmus at...
Twin Sister Interview, 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival: Dev Gupta Vs. The Ghosts Of Hamptons Frat Part
Переглядів 2,7 тис.12 років тому
To record their upcoming full length, In Heaven Twin Sister scouted out a house in the Hamptons in which to live, write and record. Lest you think them a bunch of rich kids, know that in the off-season, Hamptons beach houses are pretty cheap. We spoke with Dev Gupta, Twin Sister's keyboardist, about the experience recording their new album, scaling the learning curve on modular synths, and tryi...
Pitchfork Music Festival 2011: Chrissy Murderbot Interview, Part 3 Of 3 (Video)
Переглядів 1,5 тис.12 років тому
We've all heard about the resurgence of vinyl, I'm sure. But according to Chicago-based DJ and producer Chrissy Murderbot, while that might hold true for the indie rock market the dance world continues to mave towards an all-digital delivery paradigm. See, while hipsters and retro-fetishists (and, ok, audiophiles) may be gobbling up those big black music discs, DJs and dance music fans just car...
Woods Interview From Pitchfork Fest 2011: Lucas Crane Jams On Cassette Players By Jamming Them (Vide
Переглядів 5 тис.12 років тому
Lucas Crane And Jarvis Taveniere are only two-fifths of the touring incarnation of Woods, but their contributions go a long, long way towards shaping the sonic character of this dreamy, spacey, folk-rock band. For his part, Lucas creates striking ambiance textures - and a striking image - by feeding a pair of Sony cassette decks and his own voice through delay and reverb pedals; essentially, Lu...
Fresh And Onlys Interview At 2011 Pitchfork Fest: Love For Tascam And Leo Fender (Video)

Wymond Miles of the San Fransisco-based Fresh & Onlys knows how to get sounds out of his head and into the world. Not only is the guitarist particular about his gear - down to the tubes in his amp - but he's a home recording enthusiast as well. Miles recently picked up a Tascam 3888 8-track reel-to-reel, on which he recorded his band's latest EP, Secret Walls. We also spoke with Wymond about hi...
G-Side Interview From Pitchfork Music Festival 2011 (Video)
Переглядів 1 тис.12 років тому
Used to be, an aspiring hip-hop act or team had to catch the attention of an established artist - a Jay-Z, a Dr. Dre - or a label head in order to reach an audience beyond their hometown. The internet promised to change all that, but its rare, still, the artist who turns this promise into a success story. G-Side are that exception. A hip-hop collective from Hunstville, AL, G-side have been at i...
HEALTH Interview At 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival: Blood, Sweat And Bum S#!t (Video)
Переглядів 4,3 тис.12 років тому
We live in the age of band-self-reliance; whereas DIY used to be an ethos, with the implosion of the label infrastructure it's now simply a reality for most upstart bands. But the fellows from HEALTH have a few words of advice for young bands planning on recording themselves: don't. OK, that's us paraphrasing with a broad brush - but once you hear the epic story of how HEALTH recorded their fir...

Jupiter and John detailed their touring rigs, the various ways in which they create and manipulate noise, and the various ways by...

Back with Jason Caddell from The Dismemberment Plan, we've moved on from talking Pro Tools vs. Cubase and studio vs. studio to Jason vs. gear addictions. The guitarist 'fessed up to a long-running fixation with boutique amplifiers; unlike most jonsers, Jason actually caught the dragon he was chasing when he found out about Tone King amps, a small builder from Baltimore. Jason also talked about ...

Owen also asked Jason about the sonic differences between the last two Dismemberme...
Battles Interview, Pitchfork Fest 2011: Ian Williams Has A Lot Of Gear (Video)

There aren't many (any?) bands who fuse computer-based music technology with traditional rock band instrumentation more organically than Battles. But as Battles' Ian Williams can attest, sometimes mo' Macbooks means mo' problems. We spoke with the multi-talented multi-instrumentalist before their set at this past weekend's Pitchfork Music Fest. Aside from the impressive musicianship on display,...
EMA Interview: Erika Anderson And Leif Shackleford Detail Their Live Rigs (Video)

As she professed in the first part of our interview, EMA's Erika M. Anderson is very particular when it comes to recording. Not so much when it comes to the gear she plays on the road. Sure she favors single-coil Fenders and has a trick for getting gnarly, controllable feedback by cascading varying distortion pedals - and yes she's all about "sweet rectifiers" - but the singer / songwriter / gu...

I’m trying to learn the bass on this guitar, but the experience i have had as a child is a bit problematic. it’s almost my height, and pretty heavy,so when i try and play it,i have to sit down awkwardly. it’s a really REAALLYYY good guitar though, and pretty high quality,so i would recommend it. (:

I had the G20 for many years and may it RIP. *I still have the 10" cabinet pair which are great speakers and perform great with a lot of other amps.* The short coming of this amp is the speakers are quite hefty in build quality and magnet power so the wattage was never able to get the speakers to a high enough level of efficiency. *It was another amp that sounded great but only at modest levels.*

The distortion setting is kind of shit. I use a JC120 in an alt band and if you get a nice distortion box that can function like a preamp it rips. Also the chorus setting is soooooo sick, esp when you double mic it. I don't think it sounds cheesy at all, when you can properly hear the stereo effect coming out of both speakers it sounds so glassy and cool The ruggedized construction and the fact that the knobs do not extend beyond the cabinet make it great for touring, I have used JC's for all of my tours and they don't mind being in the equipment trailer or getting knocked around. Just get some caster wheels for it and you are chilling. Also, the JC40 is really good for smaller gigs if you want something small, loud and don't mind losing some of the bassy low end warmth of the 120

My VTX200SH is still going after close to 20 years. It has the Ampeg H140C lead distortion preamp, but this preamp sounds nearly identical to Crate's OEM distortion architecture, and I've reviewed the schematics as an engineer so i know they are significantly different with a few functions being the same. *I guess my point is the Crate OEM distortion architecture matches the H140C pound for pound.* I have 5 Crate heads, 1 is all tube and the rest solid-state. Heads like the GLX and other series with the Shape control *and the Midrange some models lack are untouchable as metal amps, even when you shred and sweep at the elite level like I do,.* The company closing down is genuinely a tragedy!

I just bought mine and I can play it just fine with no problems. I paid big $$$$ for this after slogging along with Fender for years. I have 4 Fender Jazz basses, a Gretsch and a Gibson and they are now officially retired permanently. UNLESS it’s an outside gig. Being under a tent or pavilion on a rainy wet day, too cool or 100 degree weather I’ll take the Gibson. I’m babying it ??? You bet !

I’m not hearing anything on this guitar that sounds unquestionably, like a Resonator. If you wanted a hybrid standard acoustic or standard electric/ Resonator, then this might be the ticket. However, I am not hearing a pure resonator sound. Definitely not for me but thanks for your demonstration and your objectivity.
